In Lisbon, the beach of São João is situated on the South Bank Costa da Caparica, and is one of the first beaches facing the sea being very close to the mouth of the Tagus.
This beach is mainly sand and is protected by pontoons to protect the coastline which give it unique characteristics.
During the summer season (May to September) sets up school in the beach of Maré Viva, in São João da Caparica which installs Center Windsurfing school.
The beach of São João da Caparica is about 750 meters long between the pontoons and is oriented WSW, which what makes it an excellent spot to winch alternate wave (waves softer and weaker wind between March and May) .
In summer (May to September) the wind blows under the constant north wind, but the waves become smaller, a factor that also makes a great spot for novice and practicing slalom.
The wind direction is generally side-off which makes the water level with very little wind waves, great for lovers of speed and wave in front-side.
